They say a pen is mightier than a sword.
With change in time and technology, people would rather pick up a sword then go through the stress of picking up a pen.
As a blogger, your strongest platform SHOULD BE the blog where you talk about your creative ideas and curated details. Like I said, with Instagram turning into a money making platform for influencers and brands, no body has the time and patience to sit down and pen down their thoughts and ideas. I am little old school when it comes to technology – I would rather buy a book, smell it and feel it, than using a kindle to read. Where is the feel? I know it saves trees but technology also in some way creates pollutants unknowingly.
Keeping all this aside I wanted to talk about how the influencer game in India has changed drastically. When I started blogging, it was the all about – good content = good read. Today it’s all about engagement (organic or inorganic). We will talk about organic and inorganic part later. The definition of creativity is dead with only 5% of the bloggers/influencers working hard and bringing the best on the platform that unfortunately goes unrecognized.
Talking about blogging – I make sure I read my blogger friend’s and other blogger’s posts on their platform at-least twice in a month or whenever they post.
When was the last time you read a blog?
As a community, we were stronger and organic. Number game was never something that would even cross our mind. Brands and PR companies always worked organically and wouldn’t discriminate like they do now. My first ever collaboration was a paid collaboration and look how the tables have turned. PR and brands push barter deal because they know they will get what they want. If I don’t agree to the deal, there might be five others waiting for this barter campaign. Do you know why? Because most of the influencers are influencers today because of the freebies. Yes, that’s an ugly truth! I have personally witnessed it and was embarrassed to over hear a conversation regarding the same. Unfortunately, it’s not just with new influencers but already established non-organic influencers do it too.
Don’t ruin it for the other hard-working influencers who have taken up this profession full time and need to monetize the platform to earn a living.
Things have changed but not in the right way.
