Susegado in the Heritage City: A Non-Influencer Guide to 48 Hours in Mysore

Bangalore, I love you, but the concrete is getting a bit much. I love heading to Mysore to find that 2006 charm—tree-lined streets, slow mornings, and soul-satisfying meals. No filters, no ‘aesthetic’ fluff, just a real guide to 48 hours in the heritage city.

If you are looking for an escape from the “stuffy” pace of Bangalore? Mysore is the perfect antidote—a city that still carries the soulful, tree-lined charm of Bangalore circa 2006. This isn’t an influencer-curated list; it’s a guide born from field-job discoveries and a love for the quiet life.

Expect a 2.5 to 3-hour drive from Bangalore via the scenic highway to reach this heritage haven.

Day 1: Royal Echoes & Street Eats

  • The Morning: Mysore Palace
Start your trip at the iconic Amba Vilas Palace. Walk through the grand Indo-Saracenic halls, but skip the interior crowds by the evening to catch the Sound & Light Show ( for adults). MakeMyTrip notes that the palace is open from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the show typically starting at 7:00 PM.
  • Lunch: Annapoorna by RRR
Head here for a “soulful” Andhra-style meal. It’s famous for its spicy, unlimited veg meals served on banana leaves.
    • Approx. Cost: You can view the menu on Swiggy.
  • Afternoon Coffee: Sapa or Naviluna
Sapa is a must for sourdough fans and coffee lovers, while Naviluna Artisan Chocolate offers world-class bean-to-bar chocolate in a beautiful heritage setting on Krishna Vilas Road.
  • Evening: Food Street & Window Shopping
Stroll down Krishna Vilas Road to find the famous Usman Dry Gobi. Afterward, walk through Devaraj Urs Road for some relaxed window shopping.
  • Night: Bopy’s
End your day “Mysore style” at Bopy’s. Grab some Raja Rani Masala Peanuts and a beverage to soak in the local evening vibe.

Day 2: Lakes, Markets & Heritage

  • Breakfast: Mylari Dosa
Start early at the legendary Mylari. Their dosas are uniquely fluffy and served with a signature dollop of white butter—unlike any “regular” dosa in Bangalore.
  • Morning: Karanji Lake & Bird Sanctuary
Spend a peaceful morning boating or visiting the peacock rehabilitation centre. It’s an ideal spot for bird lovers to avoid the midday heat.
    • Approx. Cost: Check their website or tourist page for entry and boating tickets.
  • The Hustle: Devaraj Urs Market
By 11:00 AM, head to this historic market for souvenirs and the original Mysore Pak from Guru Sweets. Be sure to finish your market walk by noon, as the Karnataka sun can be unforgiving even in winter.
  • Lunch: Royal Orchid Metropole
Treat yourself to lunch at this heritage property. The colonial architecture and “serving royalty” vibe make the slightly higher price point worth it.
    • Approx. Cost: 1500 INR per person.
  • Post-Lunch: Chamundi Hills & Bonsai Garden
Drive up for the temple view and visit the Kishkindha Moolika Bonsai Garden, which also houses a parakeet rehabilitation centre.
  • Evening: Malgudi Coffee House
Embrace the vintage vibe with snacks and coffee at this quaint spot, perfect for those who want a lighter end to their day.
  • Dinner: White Teak Roastery
If you’re craving continental fare or a “vibe-heavy” English dinner, this is the place to close out your Mysore journey.

Day 3: The Perfect Exit

  • The Farewell Lunch: Poojari’s Fish Land
As you hit the highway back to Bangalore, time your exit for an early lunch at Poojari’s. It’s a legendary pitstop for seafood lovers and the “perfect exit” from the city’s hospitality.

Hope this was helpful! Enjoy your stay in Mysuru.

Love,

Anusha
